Haute Swapping Was A Success!!

Good morning everyone!

Today I'm in a GREAT mood. Not sure why but I'm glad things are looking up. Haute Swapping for a Cause was a great success, so much so that I have spoken with the YWCA about doing another event for them in the future. We had great food, nice clothes, good fellowshipping and a HAUTE DJ!

I should use this time to send out my "thank-you's" so here goes! I'm going to start with the front door just so I won't miss anyone...I'm getting old (probably the next post) and my brain doesn't work as well. Anyway....

Thank you to Ashanti and Chasity Nicole (and son-son), she's preggos, for serving as a hostesses. Although they were a few feet away from the party "guarding" the door, I truly needed their help and appreciate them!

Thanks goes to Marcia and "chico" for allowing us to use the Clothing Xchange (Hillsboro Village)

as our event location. You guys have heard about this before, because of course I shop there...Browse back through previous posts and you will be able to see items I've purchased.

Thanks to DJ Art - seriously he had the best mix. Even the photographer from the Tennessean (newspaper) commented on it. I really appreciate him coming through for me!

Chef Jason! Talk about good food! I can't even describe what it was he created, but it was good. He's a fellow TSU alumnus and a great personal chef! He talked about what it was, kinda put you in the mind of Tapas b/c they were small and showed us how to eat it...I tried tomatoes and I HATE them...lol - so you know it was good..

Next, my mother...she served as our bartender and while thanking her I would be remist if I did not thank R&R Liquors..they provided us with the wine for the evening. A co-worker of mine and her family owns the establishment. Thank you.

*got side tracked* Student walks in with a really cute BeBe Bag!!!

Anyway, my mother is sooo supportive of me. I really appreciate her and my father. Whatever it is that I wanna do as long as its morally right, their backing me! I love them!

Next, is Shannon and the four YWCA volunteers! Ladies, you really kept me sain as I ran around like my head was about to fall off! Things went sooo smoothly with you all there!

Nicole Howard - my cousin- such a great hairstylist. She has been asked back by YWCA to work on future events for their center.

Casme' - if you haven't heard her sing - you are MISSING OUT! One of Nashville's best kept secrets. Thank you for sharing your voice with us!

Melody Pinkard! My roommie - you always come through for me. Thank you!
My Soror, My photographer - Quenest Harrington! And she is still in school everyone!!! GREAT Job, we AKA's always do excellent work ;)

Finally last but not least...Thank you to all my sponsors, gift bag supporters and raffle item donors...The Cosmetic Store, Sherry from Parfait Media, Rhonda Reece, The Shoe Boutique and the YWCA.

Whew! Lots of thanks! But, moving forward. I am in talks of planning the next event. Some asked me when the next swap will be, and although I have that in mind, its not my next venture. Please be on the look out for the next event and future blog posts. I purchased a new camera so pics and posts will be coming more frequently!

It's Been 3 Months!!

Hello All!

It's been three months since we last chatted and I must truly apologize to everyone! The last three months have been very trying for me, but I am somehow pulling through this mini "hurricane" called life. Soon, I will be back up and running at full speed! I have of course bought several wonderful items that I cannot wait to share with everyone.

In the meantime, I have a GREAT event that the ladies of Nashville will surely enjoy! Check out the flyer below and I would love to see all you HAUTE ladies there! Remember - we are doing it for a cause - proceeds will go to benefit the YWCA Weaver Domestic Violence Center.

I've Neglected My Blog & I Feel Terrible!!!

Morning All,

I was sent an email yesterday and it made me realize how many people really looked at this blog and look forward to my postings. It also made me take another look at myself, so that I can really find out what truly is my calling. I have copied the email below, it is from one of my sorors (by now you all now I'm in a sorority) that visited my site. I also included my response. All I can ask is that you all think about me occassionally and know that I will soon return, bigger and better!

~Stay Haute~

Hello Soror, I am as good as it gets, I guess you can say. I have had a lot of issues to deal with over the past few months. Initially it started with completing my grad project so that I could close that chapter in my life, then it went to waiting on the website designer to complete the webpage so that I could transistion from a blog to a full site and now I am having difficulty with my job and supervisor and fighting to keep my job daily...Life is completly in shambles right now and all I need is prayer! I know I have neglected my passion, however I have other issues that are weighing heavily on my heart and I must address first. I shall soon return. Ironically, I still take pictures daily! Thank you for your concern, I'm glad someone was thinking of me..

I'm Back From Vacay!!!

Everyone,

I took a MUCH needed vacation for the last week or so and I must say it was truly needed. My brain has been on overload and I just needed to dump a lot of things in order to continue to move forward. There are some amazing things going on in my life right now and I plan to hit the ground running!

The blog is continuing to progress,so I am truly excited about that. I met with a great professor over my break and he has given me some new ideas that I hope will blossom soon! You know a creative person's job is never complete. So, immediately after vacation I came back to my latest styling event.

Fashion & Face - was held as a supporting small business initiative by my sorority. Each month we feature a new business and allow the owner to talk about the business including what's new, up coming, ect. Myself along with the owner of The Shoe Boutique were the two businesses featured! So, I spoke to a small crowd about fashion on a budget, key pieces and even gave away two makeovers!

Take a look at the pictures below and see what's new with Daily Dose of Hauteness!

Hosted at the Shoe Boutique, Fashion & Face: Putting It All Together, was an opportunity for ladies to shop, relax, and learn about beauty and fashion from head to toe. Kimberly Malone (of the Shoe Boutique) offered the shopping element with several clothing and shoe options to select from. She also shared business tips and do's and don'ts to being a business owner. Ladies also had a free wardrobe consultation with Raynetta Smith where she met with individuals for 5-10 minute to discuss topics like; transitioning from Winter to Spring, how to dress your body type, as well as some general wardrobe questions. Melody Pinkard offered make-up and beauty tips. There were also 2 makeovers; a day and a night look.

p.s. Yesterday's Outfit:

Zara Basic Dress - ($10/Plato's Closet-ATL)
Tan Sweater - ($6/Plato's Closet)
Tan Forever 21 Sling Backs - ($10/Plato's Closet)

Not only did I show them about fashion, but I proved you can do it on a budget!

Saturday n Sunday Provided a New Experience

Good Afternoon,

As you know I told you all I spent Thursday/Friday working on an application that I could not reveal until later. Well, the application is complete and has been turned in! All, I am waiting on now is a word back ~ which I'm not really expecting one, but I won't say if it comes its not welcomed.

Saturday, I worked with a wonderful photographer, Chase Steely (http://www.flickr.com/photos/mchasesteely/). He is a high school friend and a self taught photographer. I was truly amazed at his work! He is very professional and has an eye for different backdrops. I had a lot of fun!

The pictures were taken in order to compliment my application. I know you're thinking I wish she would tell me already and well here goes...I auditioned for America's Next Top Model on Sunday. It was actually a really good experience. I will say if you are trying to get into modeling, auditioning for a show would be a great way to find out who and what they are looking for. I have no clue how it went, although everyone who listened to my taping said I did great. Basically, I am waiting now for a call or no call. Don't we all just love the waiting game...lol

On the way to the auditions we came upon this wonderful castle! Found out this is going to be a new luxury hotel (http://www.postcastle.com/) in the south, boasting a renaissance look and feel.. Don't get your hopes up once you see the pics, most rooms will be $1000-$3000 a night.

Because I had an action packed weekend, I am truly beat up and tired! Today's outfit happened upon pure luck. I couldn't have put much thought into it if I wanted to.

Today's Outfit:
Stretch Turtleneck - (Rugged Warehouse)
Blue Pinstripe Skirt - (Thrifting)
Red Nine West Pumps - (Plato's Closet)

Its a sad day. I almost forgot to tell you Rugged Warehouse in Nashville closed. I was truly depressed for a few days.

~Today, I'm Tired~

I'm usually very excited that it's Friday but today I am terribly tired and I apologize early if it comes through my pictures. I went to bed late and got up pretty early to take some friends to the Airport and work on a little fashion project before my "official" day starts.

In a couple of weeks I will be doing my first formal fashion presentation to a group. From previous posts you can see that I have styled a few people and have a few upcoming projects in the making. However, the presentation will be more structured to talk about options people have going from winter to summer as well as styling your own body. I'm actually very excited about this and am positive it will be a lot of fun. Who doesn't like talking fashion.

Fashion will probably fill up my next few weeks/weekends. As I mentioned in yesterday's post, I will be turning in an application over the weekend that may change my life fashion-wise in the near future. While on vacation next week, I will also be meeting with a fashion-based client who is looking for some freelance public relations work. So, needless to say I will be filled to the brim with HAUTE things !

Since today is such a "slow" day for me, I think I will clean my desk off so I can find myself among other things! Enjoy your Friday!!

Today's Outfit:
Purple Sweater/Tunic - (Plato's Closet)
Green Silk Banana Republic Shirt - (Thrift Smart)
Skinny Leg Jeans - (Ross Dress for Less)
Purple Baker's Peep Toes - (Plato's Closet)
Purple Bag - (Ross Dress for Less)

I have worn the green shirt before ( http://dailydoseofhauteness.blogspot.com/2009/02/i-tried-it.html). It was one of my finds, purchased at the thrift store, brand new, with the Gucci bag! I have to say again, that this shirt is extremely comfortable! I love it!

Application of a Lifetime

Good morning All,

Yesterday was spent working on the longest application I have ever filled out. I can't give out much detail, but I will say it is not for a new job but rather an opportunity that may change my life for ever. This got me to thinking about a great quote on style.

“By defining who you are, you will have the star power to take risks and be more varied in terms of your style,” (June Ambrose – Effortlessly Style). This is a very powerful statement, which should ring true for a lot of us fashion savvy women and men. This means that once you determine who you are fashionably and even physically, mentally and spiritually you will be able to accomplish any and everything you put your mind to.

I guess I am trying to take advantage of this opportunity because it was put be for me. It's not one that goes against my beliefs, values or morals ~so I say go for it. Please bear with me and know that I will have an update after Sunday!

Yesterday's Outfit:
Merona Dress - (Target)
Black Waist Belt - (Old)
Fishnets - (Marshall's)
Black Express Purse - (Ross Dress for Less)
Black Gianni Bini - Dillard's)
